This is a quick video on what I learned and experienced during the 4-week Creative Writing Portfolio course. I not only learned about making a personal brand, but I also learned about what makes up the writer part of Jade-Alexis. Enjoy!

Is A Web Series For Jade-Alexis?

This past month has really opened up my eyes when it comes to writing for a web series. It definitely brought out a side of creativity that was inside me. Even though we only wrote for a web series, that would be around 8 minutes long, it still meshes with my goals for writing a televised series. Writing for a televised series is not my top priority, but it is something in my future goals. A web series and televised series mesh together by the format of the script. I learned about the Teaser and Tag portions of the script. I absolutely love creating a Teaser. As I wrote them, I began to remember Teasers being shown on some of my favorite shows. I am not completely comfortable with creating a Tag, as of now. I now understand the big difference that a series and film screenplay holds. With a series, we go by the 3-act structure. In which it must be written out on the script. Whereas a film’s screenplay follows the 3-act structure, but it is not written on the script. The difference between a web series and televised series screenplay is the page limit. This past month our page limit was 8 pages. That as a whole is very difficult to stick with. You can come up with so many ideas to add to your script, but then have to start eliminating parts just to fit it into the script’s page limit. I don’t see myself doing that for a living. Yet, I am not completely closing out on that option. I don’t see myself creating a web series not only because of the page limit but due to me having writer’s block. It’s a series and we only wrote for the first 2 webisodes. I honestly, began to have writer’s block because I knew how the issues would be solved, but I could not fix the problems so early in the series. Maybe I could co-write with someone else to succeed in a web series in the future.Â

‘The Giver’ in a Character
Another character who is following my protagonist’s inner journey would have an ENFJ personality or be ‘the giver‘. This would make this character go from being complacent to self-assured. ‘The Giver‘ is extroverted, intuitive, and relies on their feelings and the judgments of others. This character will not have the same external goal as Kalani, but will they follow the same premise. The premise for both characters is “Lowering your standards makes you lower your self-worth.” Having a personality as ‘the giver’ is someone who wants to seek approval from others. When they hear feedback from others it can lower their confidence in themselves. This encourages low self-esteem, and they become complacent. Even though they may not have the highest self-esteem, they are still someone who is searching for their purpose in life. Since they are passionate, they will not stop until they reach their goals. In which, I believe that as the new character is discovering their purpose they become self-assured.Â

A Quote’s Resonation

This quote resonated with me due to some negative thoughts I have had in the past 2 days. I began to second guess myself when it comes to getting my Master’s degree in Creative Writing. I don’t have that much experience with screenwriting. In which, honestly led me to have fearful thoughts about my time in the program. Yet, reading this quote let me know that I can’t expect myself to graduate in this program if I am not courageous about my work. I have already admitted to myself that screenwriting is a part of my Life’s Task or purpose in life. No, everything won’t be perfect but I will not doubt myself. How can I expect to achieve my greatest self, if I don’t fully believe in myself? So, as of now, everything I do will be done courageously.Â

My Updated LinkedIn

I previously made a LinkedIn account during my undergraduate experience. There was not a lot I could update right now. Yet, I did change my profile picture. Shockingly that picture was taken my senior year of high school, so that was a huge part that needed to be changed. I also added additional skills to my account. Lastly, since I am working towards a Master’s degree, I had to add my attendance to Full Sail University under my Education section.

Since my Mastery journey is centered on Creative Writing, I decided to have my feeds be about writing. Some of the feeds are about screenwriting and others are about writing fiction. I do not have that much experience with screenwriting, so LA Screenwriter and ScreenCraft will correspond with my future courses. I plan to write a fiction story during my Mastery journey. In which, Go Into The Story, Writer Unboxed, and Writers Digest will give me more insight into writing fiction.

A Personal Quote

I am forever saying this quote. Maybe it’s because it resonates with me deeply. I have personally learned that this quote is real. In a way, it is a mantra that I have seen myself repeat almost daily. No matter what you may feel are your weaknesses, remember that they are what makes you strong. If you can live with those ‘weaknesses’, even when you feel like you can’t take it, then they are your strengths. You can do things others wouldn’t if they were in your shoes.

Inspiration From an Image
This quote is beautiful. It firstly reminds me of my quote, “Your biggest ‘weaknesses’ are your biggest strengths.” I agree that we shouldn’t always show our weaknesses. It reminds me of what Robert Greene said in his book Mastery. He said, “…you must resist the temptation to overreact or feel sorry for yourself.” (Greene, 2012, p.39). Also, I agree that if we aren’t feeling sorry for ourselves we can move on and find our strengths. In which, often can be your weaknesses. This has resonated with me because I may have found some strengths, but I am also weak in certain areas mentally. Even during my journey to get my Masters degree, I want to find all of my strengths. That way I can walk across that stage stronger than I have ever been and ready for my career in the entertainment field.
